Could you foster Ava and Poppy and help them stay together?

At Cumbria Fostering, we’re currently searching for compassionate foster carers to support twin sisters Ava and Poppy, two 12-year-olds who share a deep bond and a vibrant, unique energy.

These sisters are full of personality — Ava is curious and sociable, while Poppy is lively, affectionate, and loves anything to do with hair, clothes and makeup. Despite facing complex challenges, their connection with each other remains strong, and keeping them together in a safe, stable home is essential to their wellbeing.

Both girls are on the autism spectrum, have learning disabilities, and attend an independent special school, which they would continue to attend as day pupils. They each have individual sensory needs, benefit from calm, structured routines, and thrive with one-on-one attention and emotional support.

About Ava

Ava thrives in quiet, low-stress environments but needs plenty of structured stimulation to keep her engaged. She enjoys trying new activities with the support of familiar adults, and although she can struggle with communication and sensory overload, she is eager to connect. Ava benefits from predictability and finds reassurance in routine, often forming strong attachments to her favourite clothes or activities. She also shows signs of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), so sensitive, adaptable approaches work best when helping her manage daily tasks.

About Poppy

Poppy is affectionate, chatty, and full of enthusiasm. She loves “girly” things like hair and fashion and dreams of dyeing her hair aqua marine! While she can be sensitive to loud or busy environments, she is very sociable and enjoys interaction — especially cuddles and activities that allow her to express herself. Like her sister, Poppy finds comfort in routine and likes to know what’s happening next to feel in control and safe.

We’re seeking foster carers who:

Have experience supporting children with complex needs and behaviours
Can provide a calm, structured, and nurturing environment
Are patient, flexible, and able to work as part of a professional support network
Are committed to helping each child flourish as an individual and grow as part of a loving sibling pair
