If you’ve ever thought about fostering but aren’t quite sure where to begin, attending a Cumbria Fostering information event is the perfect first step. Our events are relaxed, welcoming and designed to give you honest, practical insight into what fostering is really like—without any pressure or obligation.

Caz Mullen, from Barrow, has been fostering for five years. She started her fostering journey after attending a drop in event locally and these days supports our online events where she shares her own story and answers any questions potential new carers may have. She said: “Attending the information event was invaluable. It gave us the chance to ask questions, hear real experiences from foster carers, and understand the support available. It made the decision to foster feel less daunting and more achievable and now I love to help others who are taking that first step!”

Information events give you the opportunity to explore fostering at your own pace. Whether you join us online from the comfort of your home or pop along to one of our face-to-face drop-ins, you’ll be able to hear directly from our experienced fostering team and speak to foster carers who understand the journey first-hand. There’s no such thing as a silly question, and our events are a safe space to ask anything you want to know.

At our online information events, you’ll join a short, friendly presentation that explains who can foster, the different types of fostering available, the support and training we offer, and the assessment process. After the presentation, there’s plenty of time to ask questions and talk things through. It’s a convenient way to learn more if you have a busy schedule or prefer attending from home.

Our face-to-face events and drop-ins are informal and easy-going. You can come along during your lunch break, have a chat with our team, meet local foster carers, and take away helpful information to read later. There’s no need to book for drop-in sessions—just turn up and say hello.

Attending an information event doesn’t mean you’re committing to becoming a foster carer. It simply gives you the chance to find out whether fostering could be right for you, your family and your lifestyle. Many of our carers say attending an event was the moment everything became clearer and more achievable.

Upcoming Cumbria Fostering Information Events

• Wednesday 28 January – Join our online information event from 6pm to 7pm from the comfort of your home. We will run through a short presentation before answering any questions you may have. To register for our event visit our event booking page.
• Friday 30 January – Visit our information stand at Kendal Library, Stricklandgate, from 12pm to 2pm. Speak to our friendly team and foster carers and take away some information.
• Friday 6 February – Come along to our fostering information drop-in at Costa Coffee, Steelmans Walk, Workington, from 12pm to 1pm. Speak to our friendly team and foster carers and take away some information.
• Friday 13 February – Join us at our fostering information drop-in at Barrow Library from 12pm to 1pm. Speak to our friendly team and foster carers and take away some information.
